Baptism

"Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son,  and of the Holy Spirit."
-Matthew 28:19

Baptism is birth into the new life in Christ.  In accordance with the Lord's will, it is necessary for salvation, as is the Church herself, which we enter by Baptism.  [Catcechism of the Catholic Church; 1276]

Infants are baptized on the faith of their parents and the Church community.  This mandates that the Faith must be taught to the children as they grow.  The parents are the primary educators of the faith of their child.  It is through their daily actions and their relationship with God that teaches the child about God.  The movement of the Holy Spirit into the newly baptized is a regeneration or a spiritual "rebirth" (Jn 3:1-6) as they become a child of God and a member of the Body of Christ.  This also makes the child an heir to the Kingdom of Heaven with a mark upon the soul tha can never be erased.
